Best of Brazil: Instituto Ricardo Brennand in Recife

During our recent BMM Brazil conference we were able to get away for an afternoon, together with some of our missionary colleagues, and visit a truly remarkable place in Recife: the Instituto Ricardo Brennand.

The “Instituto” is actually a large museum featuring artwork and artifacts from the huge collection of its late namesake. It is a world-class exhibition, and should be near the top of the “must-see” list for anybody who visits Recife.

Here are some of our favorite pictures from our visit:

Intricate lion sculptures at the entrance.
Some clocks tell time. This one tells a story.
The suit of armor is impressive. The stain glass window is majestic.
One of the more interesting works of art in the collection. To be clear, it is the same sculpture, the mirror is showing the backside of it.
The collection features LOTS of suits of armor.
An afternoon well-spent.

Bonus video:

This is an amazing, working clock that was part of the exhibition. I added the music.

The photos in this post are only a VERY small fraction of the artwork and artifacts to be seen at this museum. A visit there is most certainly worth the trip. In fact, visiting this museum would be worth a special trip to Recife.
