Linkin’ Log: Masoretic Texts, Manhood Troubles, Mountain Treks, more…

Lots of great content to share today, so let’s dive right in.

The more I study the Bible, the more I have fallen in love with the original languages. In previous Linkin’ Logs I have mentioned the free online Hebrew and Greek courses I’ve been using. Here’s a great article that delves into the history of the Hebrew text.

Speaking of the text, here’s an article that examines the common interpretation of Mark 10:13-16 and finds it wanting. It’s at least worth consideration. Best line: “Children are just little people; they’re every bit as multifaceted as adults. And setting them on a pedestal for ideal human behavior comes much more from Rousseau than from Christ.”

Be sure to read this excellent essay on “walking worthy” vs “getting results” by Aaron Blumer over at Sharper Iron.

Many of you have appreciate the writings of my father, Harold H. Comings. After taking a break from blogging, he is back! Check out his latest here.

Here’s a short but convicting encouragement to attend your Church’s mid-week prayer meeting, excerpted from this book.

Here’s an interesting look at how one association of churches drifted from it’s moorings at the beginning of the last century. If you are paying attention, you might see the same thing happening today. Along the same vein, I highly recommend this book.

I found this collection of the portraits of the monarchs of England from William the Conqueror to Elizabeth II to be intriguing.

There was quite the dust-up on Twitter over this Kevin DeYoung piece. Hopefully, he’ll write more like this. Best quote: “God created the world with sexual differentiation at the heart of what it means to be human beings made in his image. We cannot understand the created order as we should until we understand that God made us male and female.”

My brother Joe and his wife Kalyn make some pretty incredible videos of their adventures traveling around the US. Here is there latest one, one of their best, IMHO. Be sure to subscribe, as they are constantly churning out great material. Also, if you are into getting more organized and becoming more productive (and, I mean…who isn’t?) you should really check out Kalyn’s website.

On the lighter side…

This didn’t end well for Thor…
