FBC Missions Trip Part Two: English Day

A few days ago I highlighted one of the ministries our Fellowship Baptist Church missions team had with us this year…namely, a couple major projects at camp. But that was not the only way they impacted our ministry while here. The team also hosted our second-ever English Day – and the first one held at Mount Zion Baptist Camp.. Kids and adults from all walks of life gathered at camp to spend a day with them, improving their vocabulary and conversation skills, and hearing the Gospel preached by Pastor Ryan (and translated by me). Word on the street is that it was a great success.

The Fellowship team did an outstanding job of integrating themselves with the campers.
Huge props need to be given to our camp development team for their organizational skills in helping to put this event together.

A variety of activities gave our campers a chance to practice their English.
It’s always fun to watch people be introduced to carpet ball for the first time.
Our campus provides many opportunities for “hands on” activities.
English Day was also our first official use of the water slide.
It was a hit.
Communication was not only cross-cultural but cross-generational.
Music is a great language-acquisition tool.
Praising God in English and Portuguese.

By the end of the event campers were asking us when the next English Day would be. We are excited to see the use of the Mount Zion Camp expand and grow. And our sincere thanks to Fellowship Baptist Church, and all of our supporters, for helping to make this happen.
