Best of Brazil: Special Lizards Edition

A while ago we did a Best of Brazil post dedicated to the fun and exotic bugs we have seen during our time in Brazil. It is high time we give equal time to another prominent feature of Brazil’s animal kingdom – lizards.

This idea came to me when Valderlene, the children’s missionary currently working with the Ebenezer, filmed this big guy in the vacant lot behind the church.

Over the years we have had many encounters of the creepy, scaley kind.

These tejus are very common around here, and they taste, so I’m told, like chicken.
We found this guy in our back yard when we lived in Ceará.
While staying at a hotel we found this chameleon lounging around on the veranda. He stayed there for most of the day.
Michael went through an animal-loving phase, and he liked to get up close and personal with his subjects.
These iguanas are plentiful in the area surrounding the camp.
This fellow stopped by the house and tried to save me money on car insurance.
Several years ago a kid from the church we served in at the time sent me this picture of an iguana he found in his yard.
Alligators are not as prevalent here as they are in, say, Florida, but we do have them. This gator was found in an abandoned fish hatchery near our house.
