Missionary Max: Life Imitates Art Imitates Life

You may remember a week ago when a group of sixth graders dressed up as characters from the Missionary Max books for their school’s spirit week. The picture they sent me made my year.

Thanks to their teacher, Mrs. Oliveira, I had so much fun interacting with these young people about the books. I decided I would give them a little surprise. Unbeknownst to them, I sent the picture to Zilson Costa, the illustrator who has done all the cover art and other illustrations for the book. He sent back a picture that is…well…it’s…well…just look.

In case you didn’t figure it out, these are the characters that the students dressed up as, in the poses the students assumed. The teacher sent me a video of the students’ reaction when she unveiled the picture for them, and they were just as thrilled as I was.

If anybody had told me that being an author was this much fun, I would have written these books a long time ago.
