Field Update: Annual Maranhão Missions Conference

Since 2012, with a couple off-years, the Regular Baptist Churches of Maranhão have held an annual missions conference. This is a great moment of fellowship and spiritual edification among the brethren. Every year it gets better, and every year we are challenged for the cause of missions.

This year our speaker was our friend and colleague Jim Leonard, who, with his wife Julie, has served here in Brazil since the ’80s.

Jim Leonard brought a series of challenging messages on “The Missional Church”.
Jim also gave a lecture at the Bible Institute on the history of Baptist Missions in Brazil.
The conference was very well-attended.
One special blessing was a meeting we had with the Leonards and all of our area pastors.
Itacyara and I had a great time showing Jim and Julie all the great things our island has to offer.

As Brazilian churches increasingly pick up the reins of ministry, conferences like this that help them think about how they do missions become increasingly essential.
