Best of Brazil: Vila Velha, Paraná
On our recent trip to the city of Curitiba (southern Brazil, in the state of Paraná) we had the opportunity to visit a truly remarkable place, called Vila Velha. What makes this place noteworthy are the large formations of sandstone that jut out of the ground, almost as if they sprung up there on their own accord, say, at some time when the fountains of the deep were broken up.
Those in charge of the area have done an outstanding job of preserving it and making it available for tourists.

Nearby there are a couple giant sinkholes. One of them contains a breed of fish that is unique to that particular ecosystem.
If you ever happen to be in the state of Paraná, I would highly recommend a visit to this place.
